The Story of Wandering Cat Creative
It all started with…
…the Possibility of a Creative Interest Turning into a Career.
…and a way to spend more time with my cats.
Okay, there are a lot of reasons why my interest in web design and writing morphed into the desire to start my own business. The freedom to work when and where I want means that I can provide better strategy, insight, and design because of better work-life balance. In many ways, I’m an introvert—that means it takes effort to find the space and time I need to recharge. But when I’m able to maintain that balance, it helps me to show up even better for my clients and collaborators.
…and the ability to tailor my work to each individual client.
To me, effective web design comes down to a holistic approach. What’s the personality of your business? Why do you want a (new) website? Who are your clients/customers and what do they care about? It’s easy to make a website that looks nice, but does it convey the right message? These questions and more help direct me along the path to helping each of my clients in a unique way.
…and increased freedom to travel.
For most of my life, travel has been central to what keeps me excited. When I go too long in between trips—whether it’s flying abroad or taking a day trip to the mountains—it starts to make me feel stuck. But during the COVID shutdowns, I realized that there are a lot of different ways to “travel,” including reading about different histories and cultures, learning to cook food from around the world, and even simply exploring varied viewpoints. That realization inspired me to branch into travel-related writing and creations that could hopefully help others explore more in any way they’re able.
Core Values
-
Curiosity
Curiosity breeds empathy. It can also help find a solution that you wouldn’t have thought of right off the bat. Often, it’s easy to fall into a rut and feel like you’re already doing things the “right” way and there’s no need for change—until the universe says, “Actually, how about you switch it up.” Stay open-minded and seek out alternative views, new information, and different approaches to what you do.
-
Community
True success rests on the support of a community—friends, family, associates, collaborators. Without a strong group around you, it’s much harder to succeed. But with the support of people who care about your success and vice versa, there’s no task you can’t tackle. Even the trickiest issues don’t seem as daunting when you have a community to fall back on.
-
Creativity
Think outside the box. A standard solution can’t fit every situation. Often, even better ideas come from taking some “windshield time” and letting your brain rest, making room for more innovation. Instead of following a one-size-fits-all mindset, think about what unique factors in your situation can help figure out how to move forward successfully.
